Our Values
Who We Are
Our Mission
Great Lakes Performing Artists Associate’s mission is to strengthen the careers of emerging, developing and established performing artists in the Great Lakes region, serving Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Western New York, and Western Pennsylvania, by providing them with managerial, technical and consulting support.
Our History
GLPAA was founded in 1978 when Theodore Lettvin (1927-2003), professor of piano at the University of Michigan’s School of Music, noticed that his students, discouraged by the lack of performance opportunities in this area, left for New York, California, Europe, or gave up performing altogether. So he created a regional, not-for-profit artist management organization that focused on artists’ talent and promise, rather than their ability to generate profits.
Our Vision
We envision that our work in supporting regional artists will increase cultural enrichment and exposure to the performing arts in the Great Lakes region which in turn, will enhance the business prosperity of the region by making Midwest communities more attractive as places to live and work.
